- ➤ Mercyhurst held its first Breakfast with Santa since Barry McAndrew’s passing last weekend, and English professor Brian Reed took on Santa’s role (honoring his beloved legacy) as families enjoyed breakfast, crafts, and festive cheer. Mercyhurst University
- ➤ The Sarah A. Reed Children’s Center received a $55,000 grant from ECGRA to restore its historic St. Ann’s Campus (1020 East 10th St) today. The project strengthens care and education in a low-income area as part of a multiyear restoration plan. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ Mazza Vineyards in North East produces ice wine by naturally freezing Vidal blanc grapes when the temperature drops below 17°F. Mario Mazza explained the process that gives the wine its intense flavor, a method used since 1984. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ Classmates from the Class of 1975 celebrated their 50th reunion in October at Mercyhurst and honored Frank Barry (a leader known for his humor and heart) by rededicating his memorial bench and planning to award the 25th Frank Barry Leadership Award later this year. Mercyhurst University

- ➤ Erie's PFBC reported better steelhead fishing than last year as hatchery upgrades at Fairview and increased brown trout stocking promise one million annual steelhead, while officials evaluate Shasta rainbow trout performance using laboratory testing (including a new UV water treatment facility) to further boost the fishery. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Millcreek Township General Authority is reviewing two proposals for commercial spaces and apartments on eight acres along West Eighth Street near Presque Isle State Park. Both proposals are for roughly 50 million dollars (no decision has been made) and recent demolition work has cleared the area for new development. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ Pennsylvania lawmakers, including Erie Rep. Pat Harkins, denounced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ decision to revert Admiral Rachel Levine’s portrait to her birth name, calling it politically motivated. They urged the agency to restore her legally recognized name, citing her distinguished public service. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ Erie County health officials report nearly 1,000 flu cases since Oct. 1 (one strain shows partial vaccine resistance) while only seven RSV cases have been reported and COVID-19 levels remain low in wastewater, keeping hospital stays minimal. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ On Dec. 10, Corry boys won 60-15 at Union City and the girls beat McLane 48-24 at home. Reynolds earned a region win by defeating Hickory, and the boys will wrestle in the STWOA Holiday Classic on Dec. 13 at Jamestown Community College (New York). The Erie Times-News
