  • Bowling fans competed at GreenGarden Lanes on Nov 2 in a Rolling for Rescues tournament that raised funds for Erie Humane Society to care for its animals. Executive director Joe Lang said the money supported shelter care + he noted more events like Whisker Wonderland photoshoots and trivia bingo are planned.  YourErie.com
  • A local advocate hosted a Freedom of Speech town hall where Erie residents and local public figures discussed concerns like housing+ food security and ways to strengthen community ties.   • A local entrepreneur opened her new restaurant Empanissah in downtown Erie on Sunday afternoon—she mixed American dishes with Latin flavors and served empanadas as the specialty.  YourErie.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • National Fuel lowered gas supply charges effective Nov. 1, reducing a typical residential bill by $2.01 due to lower natural gas prices — customers are urged to call for help with paying their bills. LIHEAP's opening for the season is delayed until Dec. 3 because of the federal shutdown and a lack of funding.  TalkErie.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • The PIAA released first round matchups for local boys and girls soccer programs on November 2, with games held at area high schools from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.+teams such as Bishop Guilfoyle, Seneca and McDowell took part.  YourErie.com
  • McDowell high school girls beat Altoona 3-1 on November 1 and the boys defeated State College 3-0 in a PIAA subregional doubleheader. The girls will host Seneca Valley on November 4 at 5:30 p.m. — while the boys will face Seneca Valley on November 4 at 7:30 p.m.  The Erie Times-News
  • Three of the top five teams in the WBCA NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25 Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll — Union, North Georgia, and Gannon — will compete in the Tip-Off Classic starting Nov. 7 at Gannon University and PennWest Edinboro; key games include a matchup between Gannon and Union at 7 p.m. Friday at Highmark Events Center, with the tournament presented by AHN Sports Medicine and AHN Pavilion.  TalkErie.com
  • Park's Taekwondo Academy hosted the 22nd Annual Great Lakes Open Taekwondo Championship at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center, where martial artists from children to black belts competed in board breaking, forms, sparring + weapons events.   • Mercyhurst Prep beat Seneca 21–17 in the District 10 Class 2A football semifinals on November 1 at Veterans Stadium. Vinnie Feliciano, who ran with a hurt ankle and rushed for 191 yards, led a last drive that turned the game around—securing the comeback win.  The Erie Times-News
