- ➤ ZooBoo, Erie Zoo's annual event, will begin tomorrow with a Sensory Friendly Night and run every evening through Oct. 30—each night featuring a unique theme with activities like a silent disco, free face painting, and train and carousel rides. - ➤ The Erie City Mission has visited nearly 400 homeless encampments in the past year and holds outreach sessions three times a week to connect with individuals in need. A new supportive housing project — converting a former school into 22 permanent apartments — will begin construction in January and open by next fall. YourErie.com
- ➤ The Bayfront East Side Taskforce (BEST) is starting a home renovation at 211 Parade Street to create an income-restricted rental that stays affordable and safe. Bid submissions are due Friday October 24 and an open house for contractors will be held Monday October 20. YourErie.com
- ➤ Dwane Brock, a local leader with 47 years in ministry, was elevated to metropolitan archbishop over Pennsylvania on October 12 at Victory Christian Center Cathedral. - ➤ Local leaders met at the Blasco Library on Front Street Tuesday to discuss harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie that pose health risks and may hurt fishing, swimming and tourism. Gannon University director Sherri Mason said warmer lake temperatures and extra nutrients make blooms more common — State Rep. - ➤ Shriners Children’s Erie hosted its fourth annual Trunk or Treat event on Tuesday night to give patients and families a safe Halloween celebration (partnering with Spirit Halloween’s Spirit of Children program).
