COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Olds-Sweet-Norman House was moved to its permanent location on West 6th Street after a seven-hour process delayed by weather, electrical issues, and hydraulic problems. Crews finished cribbing on Tuesday and will soon raise the building to begin the block foundation and restore it—Mike Jefferys of Kidder Jefferys Construction said.  YourErie.com

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Folkland Foods opened its new organic fry manufacturing facility at Troyer Farms in Waterford, where locally grown potatoes produce frozen fries with Himalayan salt, garlic, rosemary, and Cajun spice for select retailers—Giant Eagle. The project, announced by Governor Shapiro a year ago, supports local agriculture and honors the legacy of Troyer Farms.  YourErie.com
  • Serafini's Trattoria at 417 State St. will open to the public on Oct. 4 after a private tasting on Sept. 18 showed that dishes like arancini, Italian wedding soup, and homemade lasagna impressed local tasters. Owners Amanda Serafini and Opie Hughes plan to serve hearty Italian meals—bringing a fresh dining option to Erie.  The Erie Times-News

  • Gannon University hosted a career fair that connected students and alumni with local employers—faculty organized the event to offer networking opportunities that help prepare attendees for a competitive job market.  YourErie.com
  • Pilot Travel Center on Perry Highway was remodeled and donated $10,000 to Fort LeBoeuf School District to fund its elementary STEAM program using hands-on learning devices. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Erie Port Authority is fixing the old south dock wall on East Dobbins Landing near the Bicentennial Tower — phase one is expected to be done by late fall to early winter — and phase two will add sidewalks and lights for better walking access.  YourErie.com

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • An analysis by Zumper shows that in August the typical apartment rental in Erie was listed for $1,100—up from last year's median of $1,070 yet 4% lower than last month's $1,150. One-bedroom listings dropped to $850 from $895 in July while two-bedroom listings stayed around $1,120.  The Erie Times-News

  • Fans in Erie can now vote for the high school football midseason breakout player of the year in a poll by the Erie Times-News—voting ends Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. and players on the preseason Top 50 list are not eligible.  The Erie Times-News
