- ➤ Presque Isle State Park will allow weekend swimming at Beach8 until September 28 with lifeguards on duty from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.—lifeguard manager Bob North said the park ends a strong summer and aims to open all guarded beaches next season. YourErie.com
- ➤ Erie County Beautiful invites local volunteers to join the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup on Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.—volunteers will remove and record trash from local beaches, parks and public spaces—to provide data for future marine debris research. YourErie.com

- ➤ Chevy Chase will appear at Warner Theatre on Dec 8 for a special screening of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation—doors open at 6 p.m. and a live conversation with Chase and his wife will follow, offering behind-the-scenes stories and audience Q&A. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ Comiccon returns to the Bayfront Convention Center in Erie, offering fans of sci-fi, superheroes and video games a chance to see celebrity voice actors, authors and artists as well as enjoy vendors, panels and a cosplay contest. Although the first day ended on Friday at 7 p.m., the event will run today from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. YourErie.com
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Regional gas prices in the Central Atlantic region averaged $3.22 per gallon on Monday—up from $3.15 last week according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration—and are about 1.0% higher than the national average of $3.19. Prices rose for the second consecutive week with an increase of about 10 cents since last month in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ Gannon University is celebrating its centennial homecoming and family weekend with football and soccer games, tailgating, campus tours and a Block Party of the Century starting today at 5 p.m. under the Gannon Arch. The school held a class of 1975 luncheon on Friday and will end the weekend on Sunday with a centennial mass with a United States cardinal—all events are open to the public. YourErie.com

- ➤ Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority will receive four new compressed natural gas—CNG—powered trolleys in 2026 to replace its older diesel fleet, with each bus costing nearly $800,000. The new trolleys aim to cut emissions while riders continue enjoying free rides on the downtown and cultural loop routes. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ Remote Area Medical returns to Erie today with free medical and dental care at the ECAT Wayne Building, sponsored by the Hamot Health Foundation—registration begins at midnight and care starts at 6 a.m. as volunteers prepare to assist hundreds of patients. YourErie.com
- ➤ Health inspectors from Erie County Department of Health inspected restaurants from Sept. 2 to Sept. 9 and found two critical violations—one at Ichiban on Buffalo Road in Harborcreek Township for missing food temperature records, and one at Parkhurst Dining at Mercyhurst University where a cooler was at 50 degrees instead of the safe 41.
