  • Erie native Tiffany Krihwan returns as captain of the historic schooner Ernestina-Morrissey in Tall Ships Erie 2025 after learning to sail at the Erie Yacht Club. She hopes her long sailing career — from a fishing vessel to Arctic explorer — will inspire young people to explore new career paths.  The Erie Times-News

  • Mercyhurst University is hosting its Art Faculty Biennial Exhibition at the Cummings Art Gallery where paintings, sculptures, digital art, and more are on view until Oct. 3.   • Erie offers a range of events this weekend aside from the Tall Ships festival — a free Polish Festival at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with music and food runs through Aug. 24, while the Northeast Regional Firefighter Challenge takes place at Perry Square today, and comedy shows, an outdoor movie screening of 'Finding Dory' in Albion, food tours, and open markets add more options.   • Visitors gathered at Erie bayfront yesterday and today to tour tall ships and take day sails at the Tall Ships Erie festival, which runs through Aug. 24.   • Erie native and tall ship captain Tiffany Krihwan discussed her plans to lead the Ernestina Morrissey at the upcoming Tall Ships Erie 2025 festival as she returns home. REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Data from Realtor.com shows that Erie County homes reached a median price of $197,400 in May, up 12.8% from $175,000 in April—condominiums and townhomes also saw a 13.8% rise to a median of $310,000 while the total number of recorded sales dropped by 14.1% compared to May 2024.  The Erie Times-News
  • In July, the median price for homes listed in Erie County was $237,500—3% lower than in June—and homes spent a median of 37 days on the market compared to 58 days nationally. There were 246 new listings, a 35% increase from last July, showing a shift in the local market.  The Erie Times-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Eight Erie High football players are ruled ineligible for Friday's game against Cathedral Prep after missing 20 or more school days last spring and needing a 45-day attendance period to regain eligibility—school officials note that players with extenuating circumstances may be reinstated by the PIAA. The team will start its season shorthanded and may not have the full roster until late October.  The Erie Times-News
  • On Friday, 174 firefighters from 29 states and three countries competed at Perry Square in a five-stage obstacle course that tested their strength, speed and fitness, with 18 Erie firefighters representing the local team. A youth event held Thursday saw a 17-year-old from Kentucky set a world record in her category — a milestone that underlines the competitive spirit of the challenge.  YourErie.com
  • The Erie Times-News sports department released a preseason guide that lists schedules, player rankings, and expert team picks for District 10 high school football which began on August 22.
