  • Founded in 1796 as Walnut Creek by Revolutionary War Col. Seth Reed near Millcreek Mall, the village grew to include Erie’s first frame home and a bustling mix of local businesses—later renamed Kearsarge to honor the USS Kearsarge; its legacy lives on in landmarks like the Kearsarge Volunteer Fire Department that serves the area today.  The Erie Times-News
