- ➤ Erie High School will receive a $225,000 grant from the Parker Lord division of Parker Hannifin Corp. over the next two years to help fund community school services such as clothing, hygiene, counseling and health care—United Way of Erie County said the funding will remove barriers for student success. - ➤ On July 13, dozens gathered at Luther Memorial Church (on West 10th Street) for the 9th annual Kenneth Snider Memorial Car Cruise to honor the late father and celebrate local auto culture. Vintage cars, a food truck and DJ music enlivened the event (which raised funds for Shriners Children's Erie and the church's youth programs). YourErie.com
- ➤ Three local organizations plan to convert the shuttered Washington, Sacred Heart and St. Paul's schools into over 40 units of permanent supportive housing and a community hub for social services on Erie’s upper west side. The Housing First model will be used to give chronically homeless residents stable homes, health care and addiction recovery support — a first-of-its-kind project in our community. - ➤ The 2025 Cherry Festival Parade in North East honored volunteer firefighters as thousands gathered and funds were raised for essential firefighting equipment—organized by Fuller Hose Company and Crescent Hose Company. - ➤ Erie Fire Department responded to a house fire Saturday night on the 3600 block of Post Avenue and used a pet oxygen system (donated by Invisible Fence of Erie) to revive a golden retriever and a cat after the homeowner found them unresponsive; the fire caused damage to one room and smoke damage throughout the house while no injuries were reported. - ➤ A house was heavily damaged in McKean Township after a Sunday morning fire started in a shed on Neuburger Road and spread to an attached garage and attic—fire crews cooled a propane tank to prevent further hazards and no injuries were reported. YourErie.com
