- ➤ The Barber National Institute opened the permanent Founder's Room on July 9 to honor Gertrude Barber, who dedicated her career to helping people with autism, intellectual disabilities, and behavioral challenges. - ➤ Erie's Sisters of St. Joseph Neighborhood Network will open its relocated Little Italy Farmers Market at Three Sisters Park, 430 West 19th Street, for the 2025 season using a $64,000 USDA and commonwealth investment to boost access to locally grown produce. - ➤ Marchello Woodard, unarmed at the time, was fatally shot by a state parole agent in Erie and his family is demanding the agents be suspended and terminated while citing video evidence and witness statements that contradict official accounts—funeral services will be held Saturday at Second Baptist Church. - ➤ Erie code enforcement sent about 200 warning notices since mid-April to property owners with too much trash and fined four owners $1,400 when they did not clean up within 14 days — most cleaned up on their own. Officials said they will now move the trash sweeps to northeast Erie and then to northwest in August. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ City of Erie Mayor Joe Schember presented a trophy to the Erie Lions Club president during his weekly conference on July 10th. The 87th annual Save an Eye All-Star football game saw the Erie Metro team win over the County Squad and raised nearly $25,000 for eye care services — funds that the Lions Club has long supported. - ➤ Code enforcement officers inspected Erie zones 2, 3, 5, 6 and the northern part of zone 8 on July 10, issuing 187 violation notices while only four properties needed cleanup—inspectors will begin a sweep of zone 4 next week to enforce rental and abatement rules. YourErie.com
- ➤ After months of negotiation, the North East Community Marina Authority took ownership of the marina on Wednesday from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and placed boat slips in the water on Thursday.
