- ➤ State Police launched an investigation after a body was found in a burning work van near the intersection of Pennbriar Drive and Schultz Road—just southwest of the Pennbriar Athletic Club around 10 p.m. Monday, and details on the victim were not released pending family notification while investigators work to determine the fire’s cause. - ➤ Grow Erie, a new $5 million hydroponic facility in Savocchio Park, opened last week in a formerly blighted area to produce lettuce, kale, and herbs. - ➤ State Rep. Jake Banta of Erie County and six GOP lawmakers have introduced a bill to let people buy ivermectin without a prescription (an anti-parasitic drug noted for its COVID-19 use) and the proposal was referred to the House Health Committee on May 21. Similar laws have passed in Arkansas, Idaho and Tennessee (despite CDC, WHO and FDA advice against its nonprescription use) as lawmakers seek new treatment options. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ On Tuesday, May 27, FirstEnergy reported that 8,298 customers in Erie County lost power—nearly 7% of their customers—and Penelc reported 571 outages in parts of the City of Erie and Millcreek Township; the cause remains unknown and companies will provide further updates. YourErie.com
