- ➤ Presque Isle beaches will open — guarded for safety — for the unofficial start of summer this Memorial Day weekend. Four beaches, including Beach 3 (Barracks Beach), Beach 6 (Lyons Beach), Beach 8 (Pettinato Beach) with ADA access, and Beach 11 (Kohler Beach), will be open Saturday through Monday from 12:00 Noon to 7:15 PM. - ➤ A new urban community farm has opened on Erie’s east side at 310 E. Fourth St. to offer fresh produce and job training for local youth—volunteers worked on April 26—and operators say pay-what-you-can stands will begin on July 7 to help fight food insecurity as federal budget cuts threaten food aid. - ➤ Waldameer Park and Water World will operate select hours on Memorial Day weekend near Erie. Waldameer Park will open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Memorial Day while Water World runs from noon to 4 p.m.—hours that are subject to change with weather conditions. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ An Erie man pleaded guilty to using a drill disguised as a weapon in two store robberies—one at a gas station on Sept. 5, where he assaulted a female employee, and one at a pizzeria on Oct. 10—and he was sentenced to eight to 16 years in prison on May 21. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ Imagine National Dance Challenge returns this weekend at the Bayfront Convention Center and features 200 dancers from Ohio, New York — Pennsylvania.
