ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A garage fire in the 900 block of West Ridge Road in Girard erupted Thursday afternoon at around 3:30 p.m.—firefighters arrived to find the building fully involved, used several pumper trucks, evacuated when the roof began to collapse, and brought the blaze under control in about an hour with no injuries reported. - ➤ Kevin Coleman, author of A Mascot Tale: The Untold Story of S. - ➤ The City of Erie was awarded a $51,000 state grant on March 21 to improve traffic safety with new tools for pavement analysis and automated sign detection, as announced by state representatives Bob Merski and Pat Harkins. The grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development will fund upgrades that are expected to make roads safer for residents and visitors—tools that promise measurable improvements—. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Erie County has not reported a measles case since 1991 — even as an unvaccinated adult in nearby Ashtabula County became Ohio’s first 2025 case after contact with an international traveler. - ➤ Jay Estes, a 66-year-old Summit Township man who was a union plumber, started receiving Leqembi infusions on January 15 at the LECOM Ambulatory Surgery Center to slow his early-stage Alzheimer’s disease. After a severe reaction that was quickly managed, he has felt more alert since his third treatment and will receive infusions every two weeks for 18 months—making him the first Erie patient to get this therapy.
